Welcome to Circularity.fm! This is a quick introductory episode before the first real episode. Before I start, I’ll give you some essential information about this podcast.

What will you get out it?

First, this podcast will help you to build a circular business. I will conduct interviews with the people who are driving circular business models. They’ll be sharing their experiences, challenges and insights with me, so hopefully you can find some shortcuts when it comes to building your own circular business. I will be talking to startups, SMEs and corporates in this podcast, so no matter where you’re starting from, there will be something you can relate to.

Second, Circularity.fm will help you to understand the circular economy in general. Every organisation is connected to multiple customers, suppliers and partners. By looking at individual business models we will also shed light on the ecosystem necessary to support them, and how we can all move together towards a more circular economy.

What is Circularity.fm not about?

The podcast won’t be about aspects of the circular economy that aren’t related to business models. I believe that sustainable change is only possible with sustainable business models. So I won’t try to give an overview of all aspects of circularity – there are already great podcasts out there that do so. This is a podcast specifically about bringing circularity and business together.

I will also stay away from waste, recycling and green energy businesses models. These business models are essential for the circular economy. Right now, though, I have the feeling that these sectors are a topic of their own, given the history and the number of organisations that are active here. I like focus. And for the beginning of Circularity.fm I want to focus on other sectors to provide condensed knowledge for you – fast.

Okay, this might be interesting for you. But wait, who am I?

My name is Patrick Hypscher. I was born in Leipzig, Germany. I’m now in my mid-thirties. I’ve done some programming and I’ve also studied business economics and the philosophy of the social sciences.
After working for a large German corporate, I ran my own startup. For the last two years I’ve been leading BlueMovement, a circular business model of BSH Home Appliance group, which is a subsidiary of Robert Bosch. I saw that many people involved in circular business models were running into similar challenges, and sharing our experiences helped me to spot possible solutions. I want to share these experiences with a wider audience, so that we, together, are faster in transforming our economy.

What will this podcast look like?

In this podcast I will interview people responsible for circular business models. Here and there I will include a solo show to shed light on one specific aspect of circular business models or the circular economy. Episodes will be about 15 to 45 minutes long. There will be one episode per month, sometimes two. It’s primarily in English, or German English as you’ve probably heard by now. A few episodes might be in German only, depending on the preferences of the interviewee.

What is next?

In the first real episode I will share the circular business model map with you. I’m a visual type and therefore I’ve put actual circular business models on a map. Not a geographical map, though. This is a conceptual map that assigns circular business models to one of five different archetypes, like “product as a service” or “sharing platform”.

The second episode will be about the circular economy and different frameworks we can use for categorising circular business models. After that we’ll start by showcasing a circular business model from the Bosch ecosystem.
